After lunch, during the first lesson of Defense Against the Dark Arts, the students become acquainted with the new teacher, Professor Remus Lupin. The task of the lesson is to vanquish a Boggart, which is a shape-shifting creature that will assume whatever look it thinks most frightening for its opponent, by changing it to a ridiculous form and laughing at it. One student after the other is allowed to test his skill, but as Harry’s turn comes, Professor Lupin intervenes and dismisses the class, ending the day’s lesson. The pupils ask themselves why Prof. Lupin’s Boggart looked like a glowing crystal ball.
